Sometimes the best money-making ideas for spare income at home are the simplest ideas. A great many of us are creative people, and often look for an outlet for that creativity. Barbie doll makeovers were new to me. One of a Kind (OOAK) dolls and repaints can sell for hundreds of dollars! I was shocked at how much people paid for customized Barbies.
I had never owned a Barbie doll, let alone painted one, but for some reason this appealed to me. I also had no idea how large the market is for this type of thing! Doll collecting is a huge hobby, with tens of thousands of people looking for new dolls to buy all the time. The economy doesn’t even seem to affect collectors as much as you would think. Collecting things, especially dolls, can be a great stress reliever and bring a lot of pleasure to the collector. Doll collectors are always looking for something special and unique. Nothing is more special than a one of a kind, custom doll.
I was at a total loss when I started customizing dolls because I had no one to teach me the process. I had to learn all on my own. I really had no ability and no talent for this when I started ten years ago. I quickly learned that even though my dolls were not very good at that point, there is a buyer for every doll. I would have made more money initially if I knew what I was doing! Still, I pressed on, and my dolls continued to sell on eBay, and I made money with my hobby, working from home.
I had zero painting skills, had never touched a Barbie in my life, and had never sewn anything before, yet my dolls still sold. If I did it, you can too! Only you have an advantage.
